Western Indiana Community Action Agency, Inc. is a non-profit organization, established through the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, dedicated to improving the quality of life of the economically disadvantaged, the elderly, and the physically and mentally challenged. Western Indiana Community Action Agency, Inc. serves the three-county area of Clay, Putnam, and Vigo in Indiana. Through our programs we strive to alleviate poverty, improve living conditions, and provide access to health care and social services to those in need. Western Indiana Community Action Agency, Inc. sponsors a variety of programs and is funded through federal, state, and local sources. The governing board is comprised of volunteer representatives from the public, private, and low-income sectors of the community we serve. Our Mission Our mission is to plan, implement or cause to be implemented, and provide comprehensive services to the economically disadvantaged, the elderly, and the physically and mentally challenged. Western Indiana Community Action Agency, Inc. will strive to alleviate poverty, improve living conditions, and provide access to health care and social services to those families and the individuals in need within the service area. All our endeavors will be pursued with the client in mind, never forgetting the value of every human being or the importance of our responsibility to the public we serve. Our Purpose To provide greater use of new types of services and innovative approaches in attacking the causes of poverty, so as to develop increasingly effective methods of employing available resources and to provide maximum feasible participation of the economically and mentally disadvantaged and elderly in the development and implementation of all programs and projects designed to serve this clientele.Our Programs Western Indiana Community Action Agency, Inc. sponsors a variety of programs serving Vigo, Clay, and Putnam counties in Western Indiana. These programs serve children and families and include Energy Assistance, Weatherization, Housing Choice Voucher Program, Owner-Occupied Home Rehabilitation, Foster Grandparent Program, Retired & Senior Volunteers Program, Indigent Medical Care, Vigo County Head Start, and School Age Child Care.
